The General Board of Christian Education (GBCE) is under the direction and control of the General Conference of the Evangelical Methodist Church, operating within the guidelines of the Discipline of the Evangelical Methodist Church. Our Mission is to promote, develop, and encourage Christian Education in all areas of life, evaluating existing models of learning and developing new ones that will facilitate the transformation of people and the way they live in everyday life as they seek to follow God and His teachings and live according to the Word of God. We seek to accomplish this by recommending Christian Education materials for our local churches, sponsoring workshops throughout our regions, and at our general meetings.
As a congregational-connectional denomination, we are blessed with vibrant and distinct local congregations, bound together by a common vision and purpose, working together to innovate ministry that none of us could accomplish on our own. Our desire is to honor that beautiful dynamic tension by facilitating the sharing of wisdom, experience, and resources from across the denomination so that our churches may choose what best serves their unique contexts. Thus, our work has focused on developing tools that are practical, accessible, and capable of continual improvement through feedback from pastors, teachers, lay leaders, families, and congregations throughout the EMC, adaptable to new cultural contexts, languages, technologies, and congregational needs.
